Siouxland Redwingers

Siouxland Redwingers produces one commemorative annually.  Our commemorative committee is comprised of a one year position as commemorative chair with a “mentor” position filled by the previous year’s chair.  For 2009, the Commemorative Chair is Dave Huebner mentored by 2008 Chair Steve Casperson.

Commemoratives

2001 Commemorative

This cut flower jar was produced by Robinson California Pottery. Commemorative co-chairs were Jeff & Michelle Heiberger, mentored by  Mike & Mary Lynn Headrick. XX regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

2002 Commemorative

This miniature of the famous William Tate Jug with advertising for Sioux Falls, South Dakota was produced by Anders?n Stoneware under the direction of Commemorative co-chairs Steve & Syl Casperson mentored by Jeff & Michelle Heiberger. XX regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

2003 Commemorative            

This 2 gallon target crock was produced by potter Mark Connolly of the Red Wing Pottery.  Commemorative co-chairs were Howard Swenson and Tim Locken. 69 regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

2004 Commemorative

This is a miniature of the Mount Rushmore ashtray.  The ashtray was produced by Anders?n Stoneware. The commemorative co-chairs were Tom & Jo Landis mentored by Howard Swenson.  XX regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

2005 Commemorative            

This miniature bean pot features advertising from four South Dakota towns: Ferney, Groton, Stratford, and James.  It was produced by Anders?n Stoneware.  The commemorative chair was Phil Swenson mentored by Tom & Jo Landis.  There were XX regular and three special commemoratives produced.

2006 Commemorative

This miniature 10 gallon salt glazed leaf crock was hand turned by then art student Grant Lacey.  Lacey built a kiln in his backyard to fire the pieces.  Commemorative co-chairs were Mike & Mary Lynn Headrick. 50 regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

This is a miniature of a conception piece.  While shoulder jugs with advertising for John Treber of Deadwood, South Dakota are known to exist, the commemorative committee decided to make the piece a beehive.  The jug was produced by the W.A. Painter Pottery Works.  The commemorative chair was Glenn Beall mentored by Phil Swenson. 65 regular and 3 special commemoratives were produced.

2007 Commemorative

The 2008 commemorative is a miniature beater jar and lid with advertising from Pitts Bros, Alexandria, South Dakota. The piece was produced by Anders?n Stoneware of Grundy Center, Iowa.  Commemorative chair was Steve Casperson mentored by Glenn Beall.  There were 53 regular and three special commemoratives produced.   Unique to this year,  all special commemoratives are different.

2008 Commemorative

This is a miniature greyline pitcher, including “advertising” for the Siouxland Redwingers.  The piece was designed and made by Dave Huebner, the commemorative chair, mentored by Steve Casperson.  Dave Huebner produced the piece in his studio, “Dakota Stoneware” in Bushell, South Dakota.  70 Regular and 3 Special Commemoratives were produced.  The difference between the two is “ribbing” on the special.

2009 Commemorative

The 2010 Commemorative was revealed at the 2010 Convention in Red Wing.  A miniature Saffron ware cookie jar with South Dakota advertising, it is still in development due to issues with the glaze.  It will be shipped to members as soon as possible.  It was designed by Jon and Tammi Hawley, mentored by Dave Huebner.  Anders?n Stoneware is producing the commemorative.
